bringing the news to teravista elementary
Our morning broadcast is a collaborative project between the librarian,Dani Doeckel and the ITS, Anita Oliver, for the entire school year. The broadcast Leadership Team is an advanced leadership position on our campus. Students fill out an application, interview and try out for each position. 18 students commit to serve at least one semester. Technology, TEKS and the 7 Habits are utilized in many facets as the broadcast is produced, directed and shown live daily. Students are expected to read and post new ideas, scripts, work schedules, background images etc. on Google Classroom. (librarian and ITS are co-teachers for the broadcast group on Edmodo.)
Our producers write the scripts and create all the camera and background changes for each daily project Adobe Visual Communicator. PowerPoint, Google Slides, Animoto and Movie Maker are additional tools utilized throughout the year.
The Reporters generate ideas to report on and capture events around the school. They take ideas from start to finish by writing their script or interview questions, videotaping interviews, and creating final .WMV videos that they then download into daily projects.
Reporters utilize flip cams, digital cameras and video editing software in their roles, plus learn the Adobe Visual Communicator software. This year we plan to expand our broadcast to adding the iPads for movie making.
Our sound technician runs the sound board and the “cart” that sends out the daily broadcast. Our directors must know the Adobe Visual Communicator Software and how to time the teleprompter, videos and camera changes. Our anchors are the faces of the Broadcast and deliver the news live each morning.
